Our Miniature Silky Fainting Goats...

Discover the Fainters

We want to raise some of the best Miniature Silky Fainting Goats while keeping this rare breed growing and improving.  Our Miniature Silky Fainting Goats are registered with the Miniature Silky Fainting Goat Association (MSFGA) and we are proud members of the Alberta Goat Association.

We have learned a lot about Miniature Silky Fainting Goats over the last few years and can tell you why we chose this breed and what we love about them!

  • The most obvious will be at the top of our list, they are gorgeous!! We love their long flowing coats, cheek muffs and bangs!
  • They faint! As kids, the fainting is new to them and quite often there are barrel rolls and struggles to stay on their feet but as they grow older they learn how to handle the fainting spells which usually turns into stiffened legs for a short period of time.
  • The Miniature Silky Fainting Goats are, just as listed in their breed, are miniature!  The ideal size for Bucks is 23.5 inches at the withers and the ideal size for a doe is 22.5 inches at the withers.
  • They are much easier on fences than many other breeds.  Their fainting relfex prevents the adults from jumping so the fences don't need to be as high.  But the fences still need to be strong!  When the the bucks go into rut and the does are nearby the bucks will do whatever they can to get to them, including smashing the fences over and over again.
  • They do great in cold weather.  We have found that the Miniature Silky Fainting goats adapt well to the cold weather.  Our temperatures are usually in the -10 to -40 celsius range and this year had temperatures down to -56.  We give our goats deep beds of wood chips and straw and shelter from any wind.  We try to keep multiple, smaller shelters to give them space to cuddle up with each other.  We've been asked about how we manage through the winter.  We use heated water buckets which has always worked to keep the water from freezing and we increase the amount of feed on the cold cold days.  The goats grow a winter coat so the only time they are exposed to heat is when new kids arrive.   The kids will have access to heat during cold winter temperatures until they are close to 6-9 months old.
  • Our goats prefer hay bales of weeds instead of grass.  We allow our goats to free range in the summer.  When they wander their favourite choice of feed is any tree type plant that has it's leaves within a few feet of the ground!

Their health is important

Our goats are loved and well cared for.  They are vaccinated, in a tested, closed herd, and are handled daily.  We carefully select their feed and minerals and are hand fed daily to ensure they are getting exactly what they need.  The herd was tested and are free of CL, CAE and Johnnes  diseases (last tested June 2023).
